  Much of the material on King of Cowards may have been rooted in Baty’s Catholic guilt but, as the man himself has explained from the stage while wearing Adidas shorts, a green sparkly hoodie and few other items of clothing, the song ‘Cake of Light’ was written about what would happen if Aleister ‘wickedest man in the world’ Crowley were to make an appearance on The Great British Bake Off.

  Dawson compares Circle’s music and eclectic discography to the work of French experimental composer Éliane Radigue and Sun Ra: ‘I feel a lot of kinship with them – this music which is both very ancient and futuristic all at once.’ With that kind of musical education, it’s little wonder Dawson was drawn to the fellow oddballs in Khünnt, to whose Failures LP he contributed additional guitar parts.
